Once I new I wanted to do my documentary on my kittens I need to get a camera to record them to add to the videos I already had on my phone.
I filmed the kittens a couple of times over the weeks, I got them playing, eating and sleeping.
When I filmed them I just pressed record and followed them around recording everything they did. I knew what kind of footage wanted for the documentary so I made sure to get everything I could.
For the interviews I recorded them in my room where the kittens were, as I don't really like my voice but was still going to do an voice over I made sure to get as much info to use as the voice over as well.
When editing I loaded all the footage and images I needed for my documentary, I then started to sort through the interviews to make an intro.
For the moment I don't know what to put over it as the intro is talking about death then new life, I did have the idea to put the kittens over it but that gave the impression that they died or something bad was going to happen to them.
I really didn't know what to put over the the intro, I tried out one idea I had but it didn't seem like a very good idea. My idea wad to fade from monster straight to the kittens but then thought it would be better for the fade to happen over the words "death" and "new life".
When choosing the music I typed in on youtube 'sad music' for the start of my documentary when its death going in new life, so I clicked on the first one which had a slow started and when I played it as the same time as the intro it lined up really well with the dark tone going into new life.
I sorted through the interview to get the voice over, picking out all the info on how to look after kittens. then to make the doc longer and within the time limit I thought I add a little about their behaviour towards that thing.
After that I had to find the footage of the kittens doing that's stuff to put over the interview. I found and put the videos of the kittens doing that stuff over the interview then the fill in the gaps I put in, them playing.
After this I needed to put music in the background so it would be a little interesting because to me at the moment it doesn't feel like a documentary. This is the music I chose after almost an hour of looking this was the best I could find and when played with the doc goes well. I asked Jasmine what she thought of the music with the documentary and she also thought it went well enough
I thought about why it doesn't feel like a documentary and its because they have pauses in them, I did look and think about were I could put pauses in it like other similar documentaries like David attembrough but it was already 5 minuets long and not interesting enough to drag on a little longer. As of now my documentary is done and considering the time I have left might not be able to change it to have pauses.
I have exported the original cut so I might give a go at putting pauses in the documentary and see how it feels then.
I showed the documentary to my mum and she said the music was too loud which made it difficult to hear what she was saying, so I turned the music down and turned up my mum talking and now she can be heard more clearly. I also went and put in a couple of pauses, they are the kittens doing that thing with the audio of the clip to give the viewer a break and now that I watch it back feels a little more like a documentary.
I showed the new cut to Jasmine and she said that the voice over was defiantly clearer and the pauses were a nice addition.
Unfortunately putting in pauses made the documentary almost longer then 5 minuets.
